"Einstein’s Definition of Education: "is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school."
This refers to the experiences, values, lessons learned and education outside the classroom - This is where sport has a critical role to play.
History of Swimming since 1956
The original pool was opened on 20th October 1956, with the first gala held in early 1957.
Honours were first awarded in 1968.
The boarders won the gala in 1969, 1970 and 1973. In 1970, Saints won all four inter-school galas.
1973 was a most successful season in which Saints beat Parktown and St David's for the first time and came within one point of defeating KES.
In 1974, with the increase in the number of houses from five to seven, Mountstephens won the gala.
In both 1975 and 1976 Tucker triumphed, beating the boarders for the first time.
In 1978 Craig Warriner broke an U14 Transvaal record in the school gala.
The 1980 season was again dominated by Mountstephens who won the Standards, Relay and School galas.
In 1982 “A vintage year with both A and B teams unbeaten", Baird, Dixon and Clarke were selected to swim for Transvaal.
In 1984, with a spirited Mrs Judy Dixon at the helm, Saints won most galas and two swimmers made the Transvaal Currie Cup team.
By 1987, swimming the Midmar Mile was an established tradition and in 1989 a Saints boy won the event.
By 1988 Saints had won the Inter-high galas for 10 of the previous 11 years and by 1988 the relay team of Neil Schroenn, Jonny Velloza, Andre Vijoen and Shaun Thornton were unbeaten at inter-schools from grade 8 to grade 12.
In 1989 (first term) the A-team again won all the galas but in the third term was beaten for the first time in 5 years.
