"Einstein’s Definition of Education: "is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school."
This refers to the experiences, values, lessons learned and education outside the classroom - This is where sport has a critical role to play.
Welcome to the Boys' College Swimming Club
The St Stithians College Aquatic Centre offers the Boys’ College swimmers access to a world class training and gala venue as well as the dedicated attention and expertise of national and provincial level coaches.
We facilitate swimmers of all skill levels as is evident from the successes we attain in the Learn to Swim program and the accolades that some of our top swimmers annually achieve at provincial, national and international competitions.
Our training sessions in the heated 25m pool or the Olympic size 50m pool are scheduled for early mornings during the summer sport season to allow the students to also play water polo in the afternoons as these aquatic sports are mutually beneficial for the general physical and mental development of developing young men.
Bi-annually we take part in the main event at the Midmar Mile at the Midmar dam. Whenever we compete in this world renowned open water event a good number of our students of various ages finish in the top 100 positions in the field of around 1300+ swimmers.
We look forward to meeting interested swimmers and their parents at the Aquatic Centre as we see this sport not only as a necessary life skill, a socializing opportunity or an opportunity to compete at the highest levels of the sport, but also an opportunity to gain access to local and international tertiary institutions based on a swimmer’s achievements.
Sport has had such a profound impact on my life and has given me so very many opportunities and experiences that cannot be found anywhere else and that words cannot begin to describe. Over the final 3 months of 2022 alone I was blessed enough to travel to 2 foreign countries and an entirely different continent because of swimming. I became a part of teams of people that I had never before met and, over the period of just over a week, formed a bond with these individuals which will easily last a lifetime.
I now have thriving relationships with fellow swimmers across the country and world. The experiences that I have had through swimming have in fact been so incredible that they could only be experienced in and around the pool. I have the privilege of spending up to 4 hours with my brothers every day as we chase our goals and dreams and become better individuals in the process. Contrary to popular belief swimming has one of the best team cultures in the sporting world and your teammates become your family as you go through a journey, spanning many years, of self discovery and immense self improvement. Swimming has taught me responsibility, discipline, hardwork and to chase dreams that you would never believe to be possible.
I have spent my entire college career with my brothers in the pool and have attended both school and club swimming at this fantastic school. The lessons, values and characteristics that I have learnt through swimming and the memories that I have made have moulded me into the man that I have become and I will forever be indebted to the sport and the unbelievable people that I have and will continue to meet along the way. This has been my journey in swimming at the boys college and I cannot wait to share this same joy, fun, team spirit and all of these remarkable experiences with you as you join us in the pool.
