Squash is a globally recognised sport, played at both recreational and elite levels around the world. As a demanding individual sport, it aligns closely with the values and educational philosophy of St Stithians Boys’ College by developing not only physical excellence, but also character, discipline, and personal responsibility. Squash challenges our boys to think critically under pressure, demonstrate self-control, and solve problems independently—skills that are essential both on and off the court. The sport promotes agility, speed, endurance, hand-eye coordination, and tactical awareness, contributing to well-rounded physical development and lifelong fitness.
At St Stithians Boys’ College, our squash programme is grounded in the school’s commitment to excellence and holistic education. The squash programme has a strong tradition of developing students across all age groups, fostering a culture of commitment, respect, and continuous improvement.
Players are encouraged to set goals, reflect on performance, and take ownership of their development—key aspects of nurturing self-motivated, resilient young men. The individual nature of squash provides an excellent platform for building confidence, accountability, and mental toughness, all of which align with the College’s focus on character formation and leadership development.
St Stithians squash players are afforded opportunities to compete in a range of tournaments. Our squash programme competes in the Johannesburg Squash Fixtures, a structured league involving schools from across Gauteng from March to June. Players are also afforded opportunities to compete in prestigious tournaments such as the St Andrew’s Squash Tournament in Bloemfontein, the Saints Sports Festival at St Stithians, and the St Charles Festival in Pietermaritzburg.
These competitive experiences are invaluable in teaching perseverance, humility in success, and grace in challenge. Beyond competition, the programme fosters camaraderie, mutual respect, and a strong sense of belonging within the school community.
We encourage all students to participate in squash—whether for enjoyment, personal development, and physical wellbeing, or as part of a high-performance sporting pathway. The programme is inclusive and supportive, welcoming students who are willing to learn, commit, and grow.
We look forward to providing your son with the opportunity to develop their fitness, skills, character, and sense of purpose through squash, in alignment with the values and educational mission of St Stithians Boys’ College.
