"Einstein’s Definition of Education: "is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school."
This refers to the experiences, values, lessons learned and education outside the classroom - This is where sport has a critical role to play.
Welcome to the Boys' College Rugby Club
St Stithians is a proud Rugby school steeped in tradition and Rugby is an integral part of our culture at the College.
The programme is about finding potential in every learner that participates in the game. The Rugby programme is designed to provide the learners with an opportunity to experience the unique culture of the sport whist also learn about participating in a demanding team sport.
The programme is also designed in a way that it promotes and fosters excellence and team spirit in students. The enjoyment of the sport is at the core of it all. Yes, being competitive and having a winning spirit and outlook is important to the College, having said that it’s even more important to the College that students are enjoying the sport of rugby, whilst being developed by a competent team of coaches.
Our mission is to develop and coach the sport of Rugby, by developing players and/or athletes to their highest potential in a positive environment while encouraging discipline, commitment, integrity and honour both on and off the field.
Our core values are passion, solidarity, discipline, respect, sportsmanship and teamwork. We look forward to developing your sons to their fullest potential.
“It is not the will to win that matters, everyone has that. It is the will to prepare to win that matters” Paul Bear Bryant
Head of Rugby & 1st XV Coach
Absorb what useful, discard what is not and add what is uniquely your own.
He is a St Stithians Old Boy, that matriculated in 2000 and play in the 3 most successful years in Saints rugby history. From there he played rugby for UCT and then moved on to further my career in New Zealand, with the New Zealand Sports Academy and The Bay of Plenty. During that time, he managed to get a personal training/conditioning diploma from ETA and a BA in Psychology and communication science from UNISA.
His coaching career began as a hobby and over the years grew into an obsession. He started at Rondebosch in 2012 and spent 7 great years learning from some of the finest coaches. He was an assistant coach at 1st team level for 3 years, in charge of attack, backline and skills. He then moved on to coach at Bishops 1st XV for a year, where he was in charge of defence. During that time he was also lucky enough to work at UCT on 2 separate occasions, with U21’s and with the U19 Varsity cup side.
In 2009 he started coaching at Saints and was allocated to take charge of defence and conditioning.
He is now determined to create a new rugby culture throughout Saints and wants to bring the enjoyment back into the game. He believes that the sports field is an extension of the classroom and his main goal is to create better people through a sporting environment.
The 2023 Rugby Captain will be announced in June 2023.
