Much wordplay has been made about Mr Hean's initials, but he really was the Father of Saints Basketball. His enthusiasm and demand for standards have been the backbone of the sport's success. While there has been the odd assistant, Mr Hean has driven basketball on his own for many years. That he has been successful can be measured in the improvement in our results, but also in the much increased number of participants (we can now field four sides in the U14 age group). The demands that he placed on the players were the same that he expected from himself — always do your best, so that you never need to make excuses for anything. I shall never forget trying to impress him by arriving half an hour earlier than scheduled for my first match, hoping to set everything up before he arrived. Mr Hean was already there and everything was packed out, precisely in its ordained place on the court. It is also a tribute to Mr Hean's contribution to Saints Basketball that a second court was built during his time in charge and that the sport has gained the respect it deserves at the College. We wish DAD well I and hope that he will be a regular spectator at our games.
