We have a number of opportunities where our senior pupils provide peer support for our junior pupils.
Some examples include:
Paired Reading
Maths Champions
Sports Captains
Language Ambassadors
Literacy Captains
In 2023 we piloted a new peer support programme where the S2 pupils become 'big sisters/big brothers' and buddy up with a new S1 'little sister/ little brother'. The Big Sisters/ Big Brothers create a programme of events and activities to help the S1s settle into high school and build their confidence.
PROGRAMME AIM:
1. Feel a sense of belonging in School of Dance and in Wallace High School
2. Develop relationships with peers but also a strong bond with S2 Big Sister/ Big Brother
3. Develop confidence and reach their potential in dance
The S1 Big Sisters & Big Brothers invited the P7s (newly accepted into School of Dance) up to Wallace High for a fun dance and team building session in June. All Little Sisters also received a welcome letter from their buddy - with details of who they are, what they like and how to get in contact with them. At the start of the year, the Big Sisters/ Big Brothers organised some afterschool fun sessions to get to know their buddies, find their away around the school and learn some dance pieces.
