The Young STEM Leader Programme is an exciting new initiative that aims to encourage and motivate young people in Scotland to participate more in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.
Young STEM Leaders (YSLs) work together to plan and deliver activities across the school community with the aim to inspire more young people to take an interest in STEM. While building their interpersonal skills, our YSLs are being motivated to continue with STEM related subjects and possibly pursue a career in STEM.
The YSL programme is SQA approved with relevant learning outcomes and performance criteria that is assessed by the YSL Tutor Assessors in school.
Maths Week took place between the 26th and 30th September. During this time our Young STEM Leaders visited S1 form classes to inform them of this and carry out an activity with them.
Our Young STEM Leaders organised a Scavenger Hunt around the school for pupils to take part in. Those taking part had to travel around the school and find all of the biology-related words from A-Z to gain points for their house. 4 pupils across the school managed to find all 26 words and each received house points. Huge well done to 1E2 and 2C2 for the most participation - Endrick and Campsie received house points for most participation.
