How will a Chromebook support my child?

The Chromebooks will be used to support learning as appropriate. Use of the Chromebooks will vary from lesson to lesson, and from day to day. The technology will enhance rather than replace traditional tools for learning.

How long will pupils have their Chromebook for?

It is anticipated that your child will continue to use their Chromebook for as long as they remain a pupil at McLaren High School, therefore it must be looked after at all, when in school and at home.

What if there is an issue with their Chromebook?

Any technically difficulties will be responded to with the procedures we have in place. The school employs a full time IT Technician and part of his role will be to address technical issues. Some of the issues may be resolved in school but some may require devices to be returned to the manufacturer. An additional a ‘library’ of Chromebooks will be available to allow learning with technology to continue with the minimum of disruption.

How teachers use google classroom

Assigning work

Teachers can create assignments and add in all the necessary documents for students to work on. Students receive an email notification when there is a new assignment and are able to turn the assignment in on Classroom. Classroom sends a notification out to students once the homework is graded, so students can review grades and feedback.

Share all relevant classroom materials

Within Classroom, Teachers can share learning resources, reading materials, videos, links, and handouts. This allows students to refer to them at any time, or collaborate with their classmates on learning.

Make announcements

Teachers can send announcements to the whole class, which students receive via email. They also see these announcements when they log in to Classroom.

Collaborate one-on-one or with the entire class

Students can message teachers directly with questions and/or comments on assignments and announcements. Students can also collaborate with each other for team assignments by working on shared projects in Docs, Sheets, and Slides at the same time.
