In Stirling Council schools and nurseries, we use a variety of digital tools for learning and teaching, to share information about the life of the school, communicate with parents and carers, and to celebrate success.
Stirling Council is aspiring to provide a Chromebook for all secondary school pupils and pupils in upper primary school by the autumn term. Our local authority has invested in the state-of-the-art devices to equip Stirling’s young people with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital workplace and society and as part of its commitment to equal opportunities. This plan also ensures the Council will be prepared to action contingency plans for a blended learning model.
All young people in S2 and S3 in Stirling schools already have access to a Chromebook as part of a Council initiative to supply technology in a rolling programme. This project has been in place since the start of 2018/19 session. All pupils at McLaren High School now have access to a Chromebook.
This continued and substantial investment by the Council, has recently been further supplemented with some funding from the Scottish Government’s Digital Inclusion Grant.

How long have you been at McLaren High?
I am into my second year here at McLaren High.
What is your most useful tech tip?
When using a new piece of equipment or software, never skip the tutorial if you're offered one!
My Digital Background
Both in teaching and prior to teaching I have had many roles that required digital skills. I have worked for a nationwide bank within their tech insurance department. I also worked at a large car insurance and services firm where I was part of a team that introduced a new digital system to replace the old phone and paper system that was in place.
Since coming into teaching, I have sought opportunities to further develop my digital skills to ensure that we can confidently deliver the best practice to our young people.

How long have you been at McLaren High?
I started at McLaren High in 2010, and have been here ever since, apart from a 2-year secondment with Stirling Council. I have been back in school now for just over a year.
What is your most useful tech tip?
You (probably) can't break it! The biggest step with getting comfortable with technology is just having the confidence to play around and see what it does. Google is your friend!
My Digital Background
I've always enjoyed trying out new technology and was a Glow Mentor in the early days of Glow. During my secondment with Stirling Council I was responsible for developing the digital learning strategy across all of Stirling Council's schools and nurseries, and oversaw the initial rollout of S1 Chromebooks.
I am a Level 2 Google Certified Educator, but apart from that I don't have any special digital qualifications - which hopefully goes to show that enthusiasm and curiosity are more important!
