Update for Parents and Carers

Welcome to Balfron Highlights #7 of session 2025-26

Dear Parents and Carers,

In this edition, I have shared the photos and achievements of our young people throughout May and June. These are below in order by week and include a look into classrooms, trips, concerts, careers events, S1 transition activities, Awards, and of course our S6 last day event and Graduation. I hope that these give you a taste of our busy school.

I have also shared the improvements agreed from our parent focus groups. Massive thanks to those who helped unpick those issues. We hope that the joint decisions made will benefit young people and parents/carers next session.

Huge thanks also to our Parent Council who have provided stellar support over the year. The final presentation, minutes and finances are shared below. It would be fantastic to see you at the meetings next session - details below.

To help you learn with us and support your child, I have shared a link to study skills provided by Live n Learn and a helpful resource shared at our digital event on how parents can keep your child safe on social media. Our assembly slides are included - please feel free to ask and talk about these presentations with your child.

I would like to thanks Ms Montgomery for her fantastic service as DHT Campsie House this session. She is returning full time to McLaren High School next session. Also leaving us this session, are Mrs Gregory (biology) and Mrs Hendry (maths). We wish them a healthy and happy retirement.

Key dates for next session:

4 August: Qualifications Scotland (QS) Results to senior pupils

5 August: Leadership Team will call each family to follow-up on results

Mr Braid available for course changes in person.

10 August: Staff return

12 August: Pupils return

3 Sept: Further & Higher Education Evening

16 Sept: Senior Awards Ceremony

6 October: S4 Parents Meeting

12 October: Holiday begins

26 October: Return to new term

Parent Feedback and Focus Group

Two focus groups ran early in May to dig deeper into the reasons behind our survey results linked to assessment and reporting. Massive thanks to the parents who attended the group. Here are the key improvements that we will build into our improvement cycle session 2026-27:

We will bring S1 Parents Meeting forward (earlier in year)
We will provide an overview of what parents should expect for each year group
We will offer a 'Using Google Classroom for parents' recorded session for easy access

Live N Learn

S4 Study Skills

New S4 pupils took part in study sessions in June to set them up for the year ahead. They learned about organising themselves, motivation and revision technique We all have access to Live N Learn revision resources. If you'd like to have a look or want to encourage your child (any year group) to get organised for the new term, log-in to the portal through the website:

Parent Council Update

Thank you for all of your support and input this session, especially to our outgoing post holders. Special thanks to Lynn Armstrong, Fiona Gallagher and Anne Winther for their excellent service to the Parent Council over many sessions. We look forward to working closely with Alastair Pickard (new Chair) and the committee in the new session.

Our 2026-27 meetings will take place on:

• 8th September 26 at 6.30pm (in person)

• 10th November 26 at 6.30pm (online)

• 19th January 27 at 6.30pm (online)

• 9th March 27 at 6.30pm (in person)

• 11th May 27 at 6.30pm (in person). This meeting includes a brief AGM

S1-3 Broad General Education (BGE) Awards June 2026

Staff were asked to nominate 6 young people per subject. With an average of 150 pupils per year, massive congratulations to our award winners!

Thanks to Mr Adams and Karin Figliolini for taking some of our S4 pupils with fewer exams to Loch Eil during study leave. pupils worked well independently and as part of a team.
