Applying to University in The Netherlands
The first stage of all applications to the Netherlands is to submit an application via Studielink.
Studielink asks for standard personal data and asks students to select the universities and courses they want to apply to.
You can apply to a maximum of 4 universities, but only 2 of those courses can be "Numerus Fixus" courses.
Make sure you check which IB Maths course you require to access your course in the Netherlands. Many Business and Economics courses will require at least SL Analysis and Approaches Mathematics. If you are not pursuing this Maths course you may need to sit the Online Mathematics Placement Test (OMPT) which you can train for and sit online. Talk to the Careers Department for advice on this matter.
What is a Numerus Fixus programme?
For some study programmes the education institution has set a certain capacity. This means that a limited number of places is available. This is called 'numerus fixus'.
If the number of students who apply exceeds the number of available places, a selection procedure will take place. The application process therefore differs from that of regular study programmes.
For each academic year you can submit an application for a maximum of two numerus fixus programmes. The institution decides how many times you can participate in the selection of a specific programme.
Medicine, Dentistry, Dental hygiene and Physiotherapy programmes are an exception; for these programmes you can only submit one application per programme per academic year. For example; you can’t apply for Medicine at two different universities, but you are allowed to apply for Medicine and Dentistry.
Once application is processed via Studielink students are contacted by relevant universities to create accounts on the specific university websites. It is on the university websites where students will be requested to provide grade transcripts, recommendation letters, CVs, proof of language requirements etc. Students have to ensure that they provide and upload all documents and/or information that the university requires onto the universities' platforms. If the applicant does not provide all the information the university requires they will run the risk of not receiving an offer.
