General University Guidance and Application Information

• The first official contact students and parents will have with the Future Pathways team will take place during the Year 11 IB subject selection process. This usually takes place during the second term of Year 11. Individual appointments with parents and students are requested by Future Pathways to review the choice of subjects and ensure that it is appropriate to the career path that the student would like to pursue. We discuss not only courses, but also the different countries that the students and parents are considering. This is important because subject requirements can differ between countries. This meeting is fundamental to ensure that students meet all the necessary requirements for their future career pathways in their countries of choice.

• Students will begin to think about the careers they want to pursue when they are choosing their IB subjects after their IGCSE mock exams in Year 11. ​​​​​​​

• The choice of IB subjects must be made in close connection with the university courses students want to pursue when they leave school.

• Once subject blocks have been issued and in order to confirm final IB subject choices, career path meetings between parents, students and our careers department will take place to discuss the the best subject options for each student.

• Careers and university application sessions are run through PHSE sessions in Year 12. It is fundamental for students to attend in order to be fully equipped with the knowledge, skills and tools to carry out their applications quickly and efficiently at the start of Year 13.

• By the end of Year 12 they will have created a shortlist of courses they will be applying to and should have a clear idea as to how they need to proceed to apply to each course they have shortlisted.

• Please find below a calendar with approximate deadlines for different countries' application processes. This list is an approximation for parent guidance, but does not replace the specific research that each student has to carry out with regards to specific deadlines for their selected courses.
