G-Suite and Google Classroom

What is G-Suite?

G-Suite is a series of apps that students have access to through their school email addresses.  Each student is assigned a google account based on their ID number (example: 3000000@stfrancisprep.org).  The passwords are assigned to you upon arrival - please do not lose them or share them! Write them down someplace safe, not in your iPad, in case you forget them.

Google Classroom

Google classroom is far and away one of the most popular classroom management systems here at St. Francis Preparatory School.  Teachers will provide students with a one-time code to join the class, and after they enroll students will use this as a way to communicate with teachers and submit work.

Click the image to the left for a quick guide on Google Classroom, especially if you're new to using this platform.

Please be sure you have your notifications set up on your iPad, as teachers will post announcements and assignments throughout the day.  You can check this on your iPad by going to Settings>Google Classroom>Notifications and be sure "Allow Notifications" are toggled on.  *You may want to turn sounds off, to make sure those notifications don't make noise while you're in class!

School G-Mail

As we said, every student has an email address provided through the school.  This email address will be used by teachers to share information related to class, but also general information from the school regarding activities or school announcements.  Please be sure that your email is set up on your iPad (click on the image to the right for a full set of directions to make sure you have your email set up to come directly to your iPad).  You can also put this email on a phone or another device if you want to make sure you have access to it at all times.

Google Drive

Google Drive is cloud based storage - since you have a student account, it is UNLIMITED space, which means we can save everything and anything you need for school.  We suggest backing up everything to Google Drive, but particularly notability. Google Docs

Google Docs is great for working on essays or short answer assignments.  You can work on this on or offline (but be careful about saving offline), and submit directly to Google classroom.   For some cheat sheets and quick tips, click the image above.

Google Slides

Google Slides is a presentation program that allows you to work on projects and collaborate with others.  This is often used in assignments or presentations in class, so it is something you'd like to be familiar with.  For some cheat sheets and quick tips, click the image above.

Google Sheets

Google Sheets is a spreadsheet program.  Though this might not be one you use all the time in class, it's worth knowing how to use for school and beyond to keep track of data and information.   For some cheat sheets and quick tips, click the image above.

Google Meets

Google Meets is the platform we use for synchronous distance learning if needed.  You will get meet codes from teachers, or it might be embedded in your Google Classroom.  These meetings can be class wide, or may be for extra help or small group work.  In order to join, you need to use your @stfrancisprep.org email address to be admitted to the Meet. In Google Classroom on your iPad, you can join a class meet by clicking on the video camera in your class like below:

Once you're on the Meet, be sure to remember you are interacting with students and your teacher even if you're not in person, so all school rules apply.  Please look at the etiquette rules to the left; these are general rules that help to keep the Meet efficient for all students.  You can conduct these Meets on your iPad, or any device with a camera where you can log into your @stfrancisprep.org account.  On mobile devices, you will need the google meet app; on your iPad you can get this from self services.
