Grades 5 and 6

The theme of this year is Systems. Covering biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science, students will investigate the systems involving:

• Chemicals and energy in organisms and the environment
• Stars, planets, and moons
• Materials cycling through land, water, and atmosphere
• Atoms and molecules

This class focuses on classroom activities and small-group projects to keep students engaged. Additionally, students will plan and conduct experiments for the Science Fair in April and participate in engineering projects throughout the year.

For the week (s) of August 30 through September 14 students will learn about the interactions of earth, water, and atmosphere and will conduct an in-class project developing a plan for sustaining Los Angeles County's water needs.
