Milestone #2

Project Plan, Concepts, Concept Selection, Analysis and Testing Plan

Project Plan

The Contaxt Team has chosen Soccer as the sport to design their project for. The primary focus points are the three point of contact on the foot, as well as a GPS implemented to track movement, on both a cleat or a sock. After further testing and analysis has been conducted, a decision will be made regarding if the team would prefer executing this project on a cleat or a sock. Regardless of the decision that is made, the team will work to miniaturize the hardware and collect real data.

The following are the key initiatives for the year:

  1. Launch MVP

  2. Complete one reporting experience

  3. Acquire external resources (funds, materials, technology, partnerships)

  4. Establish IP

  5. Win Stevens pitch competition

Concepts and Selection

Hardware and Software Specifications

The Hardware System for Contaxt consists of multiple force sensors, wiring, a breadboard, and a GPS. The data then goes to an Arduino code made by the team. The sensors are for collecting data, the breadboard helps test the circuitry created, and the GPS allows the team to keep track of the players on the field. The team will be recreating the last Team's prototype to make it a potential MVP. This means getting real-time data for it to be sent to our algorithm while making the prototype look presentable/reduced. The team's other goal is for it to be sturdy for consistent results. The team switched from Raspberry Pi Zero W to Arduino.

The Software System for Contaxt consists of the local server, the cloud server, and the mobile app. The local server will be used on-site to collect the raw data from all of the Contaxt devices on the field and export the data to the cloud server. The cloud server will import the raw data and run the data through the algorithm stored in the cloud. The algorithm will convert the raw data into useful visual data, and then send it to the mobile application for the user to see. The mobile application will be used to see any action that gets picked up by the Contaxt devices in real-time. The application will have different user privileges depending on the status the user has (Coach, Referee, Regular Fan).

Analysis and Testing Plan

Testing and analysis of the prototype is currently scheduled for the Spring. The team has decided that they would like to work with the Stevens Men Club Soccer Team. The Contaxt team plans to establish a connection with this team. Once a prototype is developed, one player will be asked to wear the prototype to collect data during one of the team's practices. Analysis of the prototype as well as the data collected, will be primarily focused and based upon the response time of the algorithm, as well as delays in transferring and displaying this data onto the phone/watch applications.
