Spring 2020

Week 15: 04/26/2020

  • The group is preparing their "booth" for the design expo this Friday
  • The group submitted their final pitch video for the Ansary Pitch Competition
        • They answered questions from judges via their slack channel
  • Brea finished the Wild Card/Promotional video and published it
  • The group continues to work on their Pitch Deck assignment for TG
  • The group began planning the next steps including handing off project to a Design VI group

Week 14: 04/19/2020

  • The team was excited after winning the TG section of the pitch competition! They continued to refine and prepare for the finals of the competition this week.
  • Improvements on the working prototype being done with additional angle-force-location scenarios and subsequent play calls
  • Brea continues to work on the promotional video and will re-shoot the voice over this week; additionally adding a few scenes that are missing
  • The team's pitch from TG was uploaded to this website under Videos > Pitch Video
  • The team begins to consider how the project can apply to football and other contact sports in terms of the algorithm's functionality
  • The team addressed the changes by Professor Lu for the poster and continues to make finishing touches for the Virtual Innovation Expo on 05/01/2020

Week 13: 04/12/2020

  • The group made modifications to their poster as requested by Professor Lu
  • They continued to refine their pitch and practice for the pitch competition beginning this Friday 04/17
  • The SW and HW teams plan to improve the logic of the algorithm to output more accurate play calls based on the positioning and force of the prototype
  • The SW team is finishing up the web and mobile application interfaces

Week 12: 04/05/2020

  • Feedback form back and implemented on website
  • Brea completed sensor scripts, algo_post script, and main ContaxtCode script
        • GPS bug resolved; All 3 sensors successfully output data in python scripts
        • Beginning testing 4/7/2020 with Justin on algorithm/database end
  • Brea continued developing group video
        • Significant progress made on Pitch Deck
  • The group delivered individual pitches on Wednesday and Thursday, per TG assignment
  • Brea and Justin successfully connected HW and SW platforms together and achieved end-to-end communication
        • Demo video can be found in Senior Design > Prototying > Hardware

Week 11: 03/29/2020

  • Brea and Justin worked to get the Raspberry Pi and algorithm communicating
        • Justin beginning to make API for sensor communication
  • The group is working on their poster
        • First draft of poster is posted under Senior Design > Poster on 4/2/20
  • Brea consolidating all 3 sensor scripts into one with modified logic for Contaxt system
        • This weekend testing all communication between consolidated script, main script, and algorithm post routine

Week 10: 03/22/2020

  • The team made adjustments to the online semester and are all working remotely
  • Brea has hardware at her house in NH and has created a makeshift lab to continue development
        • All sensors configured successfully and data collected as designed.
        • Updates can be found in via Senior Design > Prototyping > Hardware
        • The raspberry pi successfully communicated with algorithm via get-request!
  • Web app / Algorithm updates:
        • Web app displaying database content
        • Algorithm hosted on AWS
        • Algorithm accepts post requests to send to endpoint
  • Mobile app / watch app updates:
        • Mobile app nearing full connection to database
        • Watch work will begin soon
  • The team delegated roles for the Business Plan, as well as pitch and executive summary.

Week 8: 03/08/2020

  • The team met to plan the possibility of the semester being online after spring break
  • Brea and Wakil working on hardware protoype; Ran into issues with lab being closed
  • SW team continued to work according to sprint schedule. Scheduled milestone for after spring break (Week 10) with updates
  • The team continues to work on their poster, pitch, and executive summary

Week 7: 03/01/2020

  • The Contaxt team made changes and updates to their quarterly goals and deliverable
  • On the hardware side, Brea and Wakil made the decision to change the processor from a Arduino MEGA to a Raspberry Pi after weighing the pros and cons of the algorithm's connectivity to the hardware and latency. Python language also easier to work with algorithm than Arduino/C.
  • They began interfacing the sensors and hardware components with the algorithm

Week 5: 02/16/2020

  • The group made significant progress in their prototype, achieving an internet connection from the device. This is notable in the development of the prototype because it will allow the sensor data to be fed into the algorithm in real time.
  • The group mapped out the quarterly goals of the semester and specific deadlines

Week 2: 01/26/2020

  • The group met with Professor Wade for a pre-kickoff meeting and discussed the current status of the prototypes (SW and HW)
  • They scheduled a future meeting for a performance analysis of the previous semester and a second look at the project's PAR (problem, action, resolution) . They plan to conduct a second phase of hypothesis testing with Stevens soccer referees to observe our prototype field testing in February.

Week 1: 01/19/2020

  • The group met on 01/21/2020 and debriefed the progress made over the winter break. They discussed the upcoming milestones and schedule.
  • Brea began configuring the Arduino with the pressure sensor. Brea completed wiring of all components of prototype and successfully acquired sensor data on the serial monitor for all sensors.

Week 15 12/01/2019

  • The group successfully acquired the ordered parts
      • They are still in the process of gaining an expense reimbursement from the ECE Department
  • SW Update - First version of the algorithm completed. Website created to allow user input as well as to display decision. Preliminary UI made and screenshots uploaded to website (See Prototyping > Software section)
  • HW Update - Block diagram created, preliminary materials acquired, configurations of hardware has begun
  • The group began to construct their project charter by compiling materials throughout the semester into a single document

Week 14 11/24/2019

  • The group made changes to the software and selected the web stack that will be implemented going forward
  • Group did not meet 11/28/2019 due to Thanksgiving Recess

Week 13 11/17/2019

  • The group completed their Value Proposition Canvas and outlined the customer segment, gains, and pains of the system.
  • The group created their project presentation for TG 403
  • A testing plan was etablished for the spring semester after HW and SW prototyping is completed.
  • The HW team placed an order for sensors and arduino.

Week 12 11/10/2019

  • Sprint 2 began
  • The group created tasks via Trello to be completed regarding SW and HW prototyping.
  • The SW use cases were completed and significant progress to the algorithm was made
  • The HW team conducted research about sensor technology; waiting to meet with SW to discuss sensor data to be used with the algorithm (ie. acceleration, shock, etc.)

Week 11 11/3/2019

  • UML/Wireframing/Use case scenarios were updated in Sprint 1
  • The group completed relevant patent research
  • The group completed gap analysis and drafted their value proposition
  • They continue to contribute to the project presentation and charter
  • The group updated the project schedule Gantt chart to include the second semester up until Expo Day

Week 10 10/27/2019

  • The group formally changed their sport to soccer and the focus of Contaxt to be used as an officiating tool
  • The team acquired sensors from Kevin Lu for use on the project

Week 9 10/20/2019

  • The team completed a project schedule using a Gantt Chart
  • They defined critical assumptions and constraints of the project
  • They are deciding to pivot their focus to a different sport

Week 8 10/13/2019

  • Work Breakdown Structure created
  • Project scope defined
  • The group continued conducting hypothesis testing for Contaxt's "niche"
  • They developed a block diagram of the system with the help of Kevin Lu
        • Analyzed the project's IoT sensor networking as well as cloud and local processing

  • Followed up with David Zimmerman to pin down a date with patent process

Week 4 09/15/19

  • The group will meet for their Group Outing at Gong Cha for bubble tea on 9/17
    • Their agenda includes discussing a time to meet with David Zimmerman next week
    • Revising the PAR
    • Finding our niche and how we differ from other patents/ existing platforms

Week 3 09/08/19

  • The team set a meeting time with Professor Wade on Tuesday 9/10 in Jersey City, NJ.
  • The group held their kickoff meeting and established the foundation of the project. Professor Wade introduced the team to our Executive Document (via Google Sheets) that contains the Company Vision, Quarterly Goals, Weekly Tasks, Competition, and Hypothesis Testing. The group is currently tasked with reviewing and adjusting the PAR (Problem, Action, Resolution), conducting patent research, and scheduling with the patent office at Stevens.
  • Brea reached out to David Zimmerman regarding the steps to obtain a utility patent. A meeting is being scheduled with David next week due to availability conflicts

Week 2 09/01/19

The group met for TG 403 for the first time this week. They established their team name, a group outing, weekly meeting dates, and began brainstorming project stakeholders and potential customers. They planned a kickoff meeting with Professor Wade on 9/10/19. A new logo was designed.

Week 1 08/25/19

The group was established and Justin shared his progress, knowledge, and materials from his summer involvement with Contaxt.
