Just some friendly reminders:
Martyr Mondays begin after Labor day.
Healthy snacks and water bottles are allowed daily
Your child can earn positive behavior tickets each day for having their assignment notebook signed.
Fingernail polish is allowed, however, it should be all one color and unfortunately fake fingernails are not allowed.
For male students - hair length should be neat and trim and must be no longer than the top of their shirt collar.
It is a gum free building.
If we notice any handbook guidelines not be followed we will send a friendly reminder home.

TAKE A SNEAK PEEK AT NEXT WEEK
Math: This will be a busy week. We will be practicing rounding, comparing and adding large numbers. On Tuesday we will take the STARS test. On Thursday we will have our first math quiz. It will cover drawing numbers with models, rounding numbers, writing numbers in standard, expanded and word form and comparing numbers. This is review material from last year and the students have been doing well with their mastery of these concepts. We will complete a review page on Wednesday which they will have in their accordion. You can use this to review for the quiz. Again, our simple solutions quiz is Friday
Social Studies: This week we will continue exploring the Northeast Region and our focus will be on resources in the Northeast.
Science: Continuing unit 1 which is all about Energy Conversations. Our Unit Question: How does the electrical system work? In Chapter 1, students will learn about the different systems and forms of energy. Students will get the opportunity to build a working solar panel.
Reading: We will move onto Unit 1 Week 2. This week, to show what they know, students will draw a life-size version of their chosen character from our small book story “The Talent Show”. They will add information using our comprehension skill and strategy of the week. Their U1W2 test will be on Friday, September 1st .

Comprehension Skill: Character, Setting, Plot: Problem and Solution
Comprehension Strategy: Make, Confirm, and Revise Predictions
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Vocabulary: Figurative Language - Idioms
Language Arts: We will continue in unit 1 - Sentences. We will focus on subjects and predicates. The students will also continue with our personal narrative unit in writing.
Spelling: We will have a spelling test on Wednesday, August 30th, over Unit 1 Week 1. The students have their lists to study from. The students also have a spelling menu that they brought home this week to complete by Wednesday 8/30.
Religion: We continue with Theology of the Body. Specifically, we will be discussing that the human person has value at every age, authentic love, and that marriage is a gift from God.
