General News
Thank you for the Teacher Appreciation gifts, emails, and cards. I am so blessed to teach your children. I love and pray for your families. I truly could not think of a better place to teach than SSM.
How do we only have 7 ½ days left?! The end of the year is always filled with so much emotion, chaos, and excitement. Us adults are usually worn out and the kids are bursting with energy. Who wouldn’t? It’s beautiful outside, the end of the year is in sight, and there are so many fun activities coming up.
With that being said, we want to make sure we are still holding ourselves up to the expectations and standards of SSM. We want to make sure everyone is following our PRAY model: Practice safety, Respecting God self and others, Acting with kindness, and Saying yes to responsibility. Please help remind your child to always act with integrity.
I think we got all of the library books turned in, so YAY no late fees!
We need pictures for the yearbook. If you have pictures of 3rd graders from school activities, please use the link to submit them to the yearbook committee. https://plicbooks.com/go/8BHB4U OH, and if you want to send some of those to me as well, I won’t mind. I am assembling class memory books this week.
Field Day information: Every class is asked to wear a designated color. This helps us find everyone on the Field. 3rd Grade is RED. Students may dress down in athletic attire appropriate for school. This means sneakers, shorts that are fingertip length or longer, shirts with sleeves, etc. Students are encouraged to bring their water bottles. Sunscreen, hats, sunglasses are optional. SSM is not responsible for lost items. Lunch choices on Field Day will be a hotdog sack lunch or students may bring their own lunch. We will eat outside after the Field Day activities conclude (approximately 11:45-12:15). At 2:20 students will have a popsicle snack to conclude the day.
Trades News:
Social Studies (Mrs. Mancilla):
We will continue learning about economics these last days. This week students learned more about how supply and demand changes the prices of goods and services. We also learned why and how people and businesses save money. Next week students will create budgets based on an assigned income. We will discuss needs, wants, job specialization, and cost cutting strategies. Their final assignment will be a journaling activity as they write how they could make their budget work better for them. This is often a very humbling experience.
Science (Mrs. Lowry): It’s hard to believe that this is the last update for the year. I have had so much fun learning and exploring science with your children this year. This week students spent time designing and building homes that could withstand floods, heavy rains, and hurricane winds. If you haven’t heard about this challenge you should ask how successful their home was! The last 4 days of class we will finish learning about weather. We will be learning about climate and natural disasters to end the year. I hope you all have a wonderful summer!
English (Mrs. Niehaus) To finish out the year, we will keep learning about verbs. We will cover irregular verbs in lessons 4.6-4.8. Simple Solutions #86-88 will be due. There will be a quiz on Thursday, May 15th. Keep your eyes out for the “WOW!”
We will ONLY get to lesson #88 in the Simple Solution English book. I recommend NOT throwing it away and have your child do lessons throughout the summer to keep their English skills sharp! Have a wonderful summer!
Expressions-Math
We took our FINAL Unit assessment today. Grades will be posted soon. What shall we do with the rest of our time??? Well we will be applying the skills we learned in various activities. Create your own secret hideout using area and perimeter, count back money to buy treats, graph everyone’s favorites, and so much more.
Religion
We are so blessed to have a new Pope and Archbishop. We will learn a little about each this week and end with the 4 pillars of our Catholic faith.
Mrs. Caroline Niehaus-3C
April 14-16th & APril 22-25
No school on Holy Thursday, Good Friday
or Easter Monday!
Spring has Sprung! Please remind your child that we are still in school. Please help your child keep school/learning a priority. I know sports ramp up in the spring, but homework still needs to get done. I will NEVER assign anything that has to be 100% finished at home. Homework has always been anything they did not finish at school.
I can’t do it without you!
Star Math Test will be on Wednesday, April 16th, 2025 at 9:15 A.M. Please try not to start your Easter vacation early.
Star Reading Test will be on Thursday, April 24th @ 8:15 A.M.

Simple Solutions #93-96 will be due. There will be a SS Quiz over lessons 88-92 on Monday, April 14th.
Religion: We will talk about Holy Week and then celebrate the Easter Season!
English (Mrs. Niehaus) We are preparing for our 3rd grade writing assessment. (April 22-24) The 3rd grade assessment is on their ability to write an expository essay. They are experts on being third graders, so each student will write an informational essay on how to be a successful third grader at SSM. The rubric for each assessment will be over the following: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation.
We will continue to keep up with simple solutions and learn about verbs.
April 14-16-SS# 74-76 with a quiz after lessons #76
April 22-25-SS# 77-80 and a quiz after lessons #80
Please ask to see your child’s assignment notebook. I ask them to copy the weekly schedule of simple solutions into their assignment notebooks.
Social Studies (Mrs. Mancilla) Graded Social Studies tests are in Friday Folders. We have been learning about Native American tribes and how they adapted to their geographic environments. When we return from Easter break we will begin our final unit on financial literacy. We will learn about trade, profit, gross income, taxes, budgeting, and so much more.
Science (Mrs. Lowry) We will continue our unit on Weather & Climate over the next 2 weeks. We will do a Mystery Science activity next week that will have us exploring local weather patterns and weather prediction. We will investigate the question: How can we predict when it’s going to storm? When we come back after Easter break we will be learning about seasonal weather changes and about the tools we use to measure weather.
