St. Dominic's College
Response to
Covid-19
The Board of Management and leadership team of St. Dominic's College are committed to maintaining a safe school environment for the staff and students who attend the school. The aim of this site is to be a source of information for the school community. By working through the pages of the site, the school's Covid-19 response plan and all the specific plans for minimising the risk of Covid-19 transmission in St. Dominic's College can be viewed. Any staff member, parent or student with concerns about Covid-19 in school are encouraged to make contact with the school office on 01-6266493 to discuss your concerns in more detail. As always, cooperation and working in partnership as a school community will be central to the success of our school's response to the threat of Covid-19. We're all in this together.
Ventilation / Staying Warm
It is most important that classrooms are well ventilated with windows and doors open to allow good airflow.
Even though we have the heating on, a lot of heat is being lost out the windows.
Students are encouraged to take responsibilitiy for dressing appropriately and wearing more layers to keep warm during the school day.
Please read the letter that was sent to parents / guardians about the need for a common sense appraoch to managing the ventilation of the classrooms. (Sent 03.11.20)
Procedure for Visiting School
In advance of any parents, contractors or other visitors entering St. Dominic’s College, contact should be made with the school office / principal / deputy principal to schedule an appropriate time to visit.
Once an appointment to visit has been agreed, please follow the procedure in the document during your visit to St. Dominic’s College.
Dropping Off Forgotten School Materials / Packed Lunch etc
Parents are discouraged from dropping into school unannounced to leave in their daughter's forgotten school materials, lunch etc. If it is urgent, parents may come to the main entrance of the school and leave the material in a designated 'drop off basket' located just inside the first door of the main entrance. The intercom buzzer should be called to alert a member of the office staff that school material for a student has been dropped off. The student will be informed to collect the material.
Overseas Travel
Government policy, which is based on official public health advice, continues to advise against non-essential travel overseas for everyone.
It is a requirement for anyone coming into Ireland, from locations other than those with a rating of ‘normal precautions’ (“green”), to restrict their movements for 14 days, and this includes school staff, parents and children or other students coming from abroad to attend school in Ireland. Restricting your movements means staying indoors in one location and avoiding contact with other people and social situations as much as possible.
Schools Pathway for Covid-19 Public Health Approach
This guidance document for school communities was published on 28th August 2020. It details the public health approach to managing Covid-19 outbreaks that affect school communities.
Health and Safety Control of COVID-19 Policy for Students
This policy is influenced by the need to minimise the risk of introduction of COVID-19 into the school community and to prevent its spread. Although it is acknowledged that no single action or set of actions will completely eliminate the risk of COVID-19 transmission, adherence to this policy will contribute to the reduction of that risk of transmission.
This policy outlines the standards of behaviour expected of students and the consequences of failing to comply with the standards of behaviour.
