Currently, preparations are underway for the amalgamation of St. Dominic's College, St. John's College and Caritas College and the opening of one new school on the target date of 1st September 2022 on the existing site of St. John's College.
We recognise that this decision has been a difficult one for all three school communities, who have, over the past 50+ years provided excellent education to the young people of Ballyfermot. However, as three separate schools, we are no longer in a position to provide the equality of access for all young people in the area to the wider educational opportunities and facilities required for the next 50 years. With the amalgamation of these three great traditions, a whole new exciting opportunity lies before us to shape the future of education in the area.
A New School Committee with representatives from key stakeholders (BOM, Senior Management, Teachers, Support Staff, Parents) in the three schools has been established to ensure some key priorities are achieved over the coming year:
Integration of the ethos and founding traditions of the Daughters of Charity, Dominican Sisters and De la Salle Brothers, as reflected in the three schools.
The coming together and integration of the staff, parents and students
Planning all the required policies – curricular and operational – necessary for a new 21st Century School
Preparing for a smooth transition for students and staff to the new school with minimal disruption to their education.
Overseeing the progress of the new school building programme which will seek to ensure the highest quality provision for the students of Ballyfermot including all facilities to provide a wider choice of subject options and a full range of all available school programmes for Junior and Leaving Certificate.
At all times, parents will be consulted with and kept abreast of ongoing developments in the amalgamation process. Be assured that we are absolutely committed to ensuring the provision of the best educational opportunities for the young people, their parents and the wider community of Ballyfermot for the coming generations.
