CMS Released Updated MDS 3.0 QM User’s Manual Tip

In late December, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released an updated version of the MDS 3.0 Quality Measures (QM) User’s Manual (version 17.0), which went into effect Jan. 1, 2025.  

The major changes from version 16.0 to 17.0 include two significant revisions. CMS revised the guidance on the selection of MDS section GG item columns to clarify that section GG item values are determined by the target and/or prior assessment’s qualifying reason for assessment (RFA). Also, CMS provided additional guidance on which GG item column to select when the target and/or prior assessment has more than one qualifying RFA. CMS clarified that the updated guidance will not have a significant impact on measure calculations.
