Course Description

Middle School Art is a course that will increase your understanding of Art as a Visual Language and form of Self-Expression.  The Art courses in Middle School are designed to expand your awareness of the Visual Arts in every day living.  They will also build upon and strengthen your existing skills in Art to prepare you for future Art courses. 

Course Content

2-D Design, 3-D Design, Color Theory, Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, Art Appreciation, Art History and Art Criticism

Course Supplies

1 Folder with 20 sheets of blank computer paper

No. 2 pencils (not mechanical)

Grading Policy

Art Folder (20% of final average)- All students will be expected to maintain an Art Folder.  During the first 5 min. of every class period there will be an "Art Start," a short art assignment to be completed in class per week, in the Art Folder.  Every 5 weeks it will be graded on organization and completion of its contents.

Art Projects (80% of final average)- All students will be expected to participate and complete art projects during class time.  Art projects will be graded based upon the following:

Criteria - Requirements of the project, work you must include (25 pts.)

Creativity - Experiment with and expression of original ideas (25 pts.)

Craft - Technique with art materials, quality of craftsmanship (25 pts.)

Care - Participation and effort, late policy, classroom policy (25 pts.)

Late Policy - Projects will have due dates and all late projects will lose points, unless a student has a legal excuse due to absence.  Late projects will lose 3 pts. per office hour day that it is not finished.  All students will have 4 office hour days to complete their project before it's graded incomplete. 

Extra Credit - may be submitted for evaluation to assist a project grade.

Classroom Policy

Students are expected to abide by all School Policies outlined in the Student Handbook.

Be on Time! - If you are late without a pass, you will receive a warning.  The next time you will receive a 9th period Teacher Detention.

Participate Positively! - If you are disruptive, you will be asked to correct your behavior.  If the disruptive behavior continues, you will go to Think Time and you will receive a 9th period Teacher Detention.

Treat others as you would treat yourself! - If you are disrespectful, you will go to Think Time and you will receive a 9th period Teacher Detention.
