The 2024 contest theme was "Peace without Limits"
Congratulations to this year's winners!
Ms. Alvarez took several of her 8th grade art students to the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University to see The Highwaymen: Black Artists of the Florida Coast exhibit and presentation by second generation artist, Ray McLendon in October 2023.
Along with learning how to paint a Landscape in the art classroom, the students learned about the perseverance of the Highwaymen, a group of 26 Black artists who established a regional style of landscape painting in the shadow of Segregation-Era Florida. The exhibition, the first in WNY featured 21 paintings by the Highwaymen and their children.
Students, Zoe M. and Kylie W. were invited to collaboratively paint with Mr. McLendon during his presentation.
We visited the new Buffalo AKG Art Museum in May to celebrate another fun year in Art club!
During the month of February, Art Club work together to celebrate Black History month.
Art club members collaboratively created a school mural that celebrates diversity and acceptance.
As a collaborative district wide art exhibit, all our art students created an "Orange line." This line could be followed through our school hallways all the way from the Kindergarten art room up to the High School art rooms. Here are some of the Middle School's creative ideas.
Each school year in the Spring, the district Art Department hosts this event in the HS gymnasium for our students (grades 4-12) to make and sell their creative work. In addition, all Starpoint families are invited to attend and participate in art workshops, hear student music, enjoy food and of course SHOP our student fair.
At the end of each school year, two student artworks from each art teacher are selected that exhibit exceptional quality to be framed and hung in our Starpoint District Wing Art Gallery. This is a great accomplishment; as a copy of their artwork will permanently join the growing display of our talented students.
