Louise Kluyts

Welcome to my studio!

I was born in 1968, one of twins, and raised on a wine farm in the Worcester district.

I went to school in Worcester and studied art at the Hugo Naude art school, where I discovered my love for art. Afterward, in 1987 I went to Stellenbosch where I obtained my BA degree in Social Science.

This opened my mind to the world.

In 1990 I started working as a graphic artist at Prontaprint in Worcester. In 1997 I started practicing art full-time.

From 1998 to 2002 I sold a range of hand-dyed fabric products at markets in Cape Town and The Red Shed at the V&A Waterfront.

In 2003 we moved to Heidelberg where I and a group of women founded African Twist Handmade Crafts.

This was a community project for women and in 2007 I handed the project over to the group to run myself.

Now I am happily living in Heidelberg with my beautiful family where we've established an art gallery along with studios supporting different types of art.
