Andries Kluyts

Welcome to my smithy

Heidelberg has a special Metal smith.

Andries Kluyts has 25 years of experience as a metal smith in a career that transpired into art.

Andrie's way of forming metal is known as the oldest technique in the world. Currently, a few art faculties in Europe offer these specialized courses and officially recognize it as an art form.

Andries is the pillar around which Starnation Art Studios in Heidelberg is built.

Visitors almost always  get stuck in the "smithy". There is an absolute fascination with hot metal and it's really amazing to watch visitors' reactions.

He works in a variety of metals such as copper, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel. It fascinates him to see how every one of them has different qualities, fluidity, and timelessness.

Kluyts works with both traditional and modern techniques, he uses his experience to give life to metal and create one-of-a-kind/bespoke pieces for his clients.

His view on everyday objects is that it shouldn't make us feel as if we are imprisoned but rather inspire us by turning them into beautiful focus points in our homes.

"It is precisely the beauty of life that improves our "view" and quality of our lives."

Andries is a part of the Hessequa Art Route and his Metal Studio in Heidelberg is open to the public. Feel free to pop in for a quick visit.
