Who Was Miss Leila Green?

Leila Green as a high school student at Canton McKinley High School around 1937.

Over 45 years ago, per a recommendation from Mrs. Marion Crenshaw, this professional organization recognized and honored this young lady by naming itself after her. Miss Leila Green was the first Black Valedictorian at McKinley Senior High School in 1937!

She later graduated from Howard University. She was invited to attend Radcliffe College where she earned a Master’s Degree in Biochemistry and would eventually earn a Ph.D.

She excelled and did amazing work in the field of science. Being an extremely intelligent black female was highly frowned upon during that time; however, this did not deter Leila Green from reaching her goals as she overcame great adversity. We are so very proud to bear her name and be recognized as the Leila Green Alliance of Black School Educators.
