Reading fluency is the ability to read text at an appropriate rate, with accuracy, expression, and prosidy. Reading fluently is important because it helps bridge between reading individual words and understanding what you have read. There are many ways to practice and grow this skill. As students spend more time reading, their fluency and comprehension increase. Students can do repeated readings of a chunk of text, read poetry, read plays, or read common phrases to practice reading fluency. Below are some fun ways you and your child can practice fluency at home.
