School Counselor
Mrs. Benavidez attended St. Mary's University and Our Lady of the Lake University. She has a BA in education with minors in Reading and Special Education and a MA in Counseling. While this is Mrs. Benavidez' first year with St. Anthony as the school counselor, she has 30 years experience counseling in the public school system. Mrs. Benavidez has also been part of the St. Anthony community as a parent since 2005 when her son started here in Pre-K until he graduated in 2016. She feels St. Anthony is a blessed place that provides wonderful opportunities for growth for children and is very excited to be able to work here and be part of that wonderful tradition.
Welcome Back St. Anthony Saints (and WELCOME to our new Saints)!
My Name is Mary Benavidez and I am the school counselor here at St. Anthony School. While this is my 3rd year as a counselor, it is my 15th year as a part of the St. Anthony community. This place holds a special place in my heart, and I consider it my privilege to making the school experience as smooth and fulfilling as it can be for every child.
While it was a different way to start the school year, it is great to see and feel the positive energy of our students, parents, and staff. St. Anthony is truly a blessed place. With all the constant changes to our daily lives, it is imperative that we make social-emotional learning along with teaching a mindfulness mindset a priority. A Counselor Corner has been set up on this website, so activities and ideas for our students and families can be shared. Only a few things will be posted at a time, so it is not overwhelming. The resources in the Counselor Corner now are the ones I have shared with the teachers for these first few weeks before Labor Day. Don’t feel like you need to go through all of them, pick one and try it out. Also, if you have any specific needs or questions, please contact me. I will do my best to help you out.
It is going to be an interesting year, but also one that will provide many opportunities for new growth and understanding. Our community is strong in faith and resiliency. As one of my favorite bible verses states, “Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” –Joshua 1:9
