Placement in Math 6 is based on a combination of the following information: NWEA Assessment, teacher recommendation, and/or past academic achievement in mathematics. Students will work to achieve mastery of all 6th Grade TEKS aligned with the Archdiocesan Standards.
As outlined in the State Standards, the focus for 6th Grade will be on four critical areas: (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking. Students who successfully complete this course are eligible to enroll in Honors Math 7-8 as 7th graders.
