MATH RESOURCES
In addition to Stanford math department resources ( textbooks, etc), here's a list of other resources that students have found helpful over the years.
Khan Academy, https://www.khanacademy.org/
Many of my students have loved Khan Academy, especially when learning about limits and integrals for the first time.
3blue1brown Youtube channel, https://www.youtube.com/@3blue1brown
I love this channel! The videos cover a variety of math topics, with incredible animation that helps motivate tricky topics.
Many of my students have loved the Fourier transform videos.
Paul's Online Notes, https://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/
Many of my students have enjoyed the multivariable calculus notes, particularly the Calculus III practice problems with solutions.
Desmos Calculator, https://www.desmos.com/calculator
Many of my students use Desmos to graph functions and diagrams. It never hurts to get some geometric intuition.
Wolfram Alpha, https://www.wolframalpha.com/
Wolfram Alpha can carry out complicated calculations, and it never hurts to cross-check your work computing an integral or solving an ODE.
OTHER RESOURCES & OPPORTUNITIES
OAE stands for Office of Accessible Education.
The mission of the Office of Accessible Education (OAE) is to promote an accessible and inclusive environment for all students with disabilities.
SUMO stands for Stanford University Mathematical Organization.
SUMO is a by-students-for-students math club on campus. They host various events open to everyone: math majors and non-math majors, graduate and undergraduate, such as the SUMO Speaker Series.
SUMO works with the Stanford Math department to provide free drop-in tutoring services for various math classes.
Math Peer Advisors, https://mathematics.stanford.edu/academics/undergraduate-students/undergrad-resources/peer-advisors
A great resource for peer-to-peer advising by senior math majors.
SWIMM stands for Stanford Women in Math Mentoring.
SWIMM is a mentoring program aiming to reduce the gender gap in mathematics. Undergraduate students get paired with graduate student mentors who are personally invested in their success, and who can provide guidance and advice.
SWIMM organizes community events that empower women and gender minorities working on math and related fields. Email the current SWIMM chair, Yujie Wu if you are interested in the program.
DRP stands for Directed Reading Program.
DRP is Stanford's Graduate Mathematics Outreach Organization program in which undergraduate students (of any major) interested in independently reading some mathematics outside of their official coursework are paired for a quarter with math graduate students for weekly guidance and discussions. At the end of the quarter, participants gather for a colloquium in which each participant gives a short talk about their reading.
SURIM, https://surim.stanford.edu/
SURIM stands for Stanford Undergraduate Research Institute in Mathematics.
SURIM is a paid, full-time, 10-week summer research program at Stanford University introducing Stanford undergraduate students to research in mathematics.
CTL academic coaching, https://ctl.stanford.edu/student-learning-resources/support-your-students/academic-coaching
The Academic Coaching Program provides support to help students learn effectively. They offer one-on-one coaching sessions, workshops, tools and tips on including procrastination, test preparation, time management, reading strategies, and more.
CTL subject tutoring, https://studentlearning.stanford.edu/tutoring
CTL provides free subject tutoring with peers who are specially trained to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in their classes. Tutors work with students to help them master the skills needed to succeed on their own by coaching rather than providing answers.
FLISSC, https://fli.stanford.edu/
FLISSC stands for First Generation and/or Low-Income Student Success Center.
The FLI Student Success Center operates on the pillars of advocacy, mentorship, community & belonging and connections to resources to provide holistic support for first generation, low-income, transfers, current/former foster youth and FLI graduate students at Stanford. This includes providing critical resources, networks, and services that set them up for success.
