Day of Travel

A single bus transfer will be provided between Denning House and San Francisco International Airport for scholars on Turkish Airlines #80.
Meet outside Denning House at 2:45 p.m. on Monday, September 9. The bus will depart promptly at 3:00 p.m.

If you are not taking the chartered bus from Denning House to SFO, please let Meredith know. You will be responsible for your own airport transport and can meet the rest of the group at the gate. It is recommended to check in 3 hours ahead of an international flight.

If you're arriving in Istanbul on September 10

Group flight + Lydia - Complete immigration formalities, collect luggage, and proceed through customs. Follow the Exit signs through Door #8. Your guide, Ali will be waiting outside with a KHS sign. He will direct you to the bus and accompany you to the hotel.
Other flights - Private transfers have been arranged for those arriving before or after the group flight on September 10. After immigration, collect luggage, go through customs, and follow the Exit signs through Door #8. A representative will be waiting outside, holding a sign with your name(s) (see map). You will be led to your vehicle and transferred to the hotel. The drive from the airport takes around one hour.

If you're arriving in Istanbul on September 9 or 11

Scholars arriving earlier or later than September 10 should take a taxi to the hotel.
Taxis are located in front of Door #8. The cost from the airport to the city center is approximately $50 to $60 (~1,700 to 2,000 Turkish Lira).
Note that not all taxis accept credit cards, so plan on paying for your taxi using local currency. There are ATMs located inside the airport. Be sure to have the name of our hotel written down to show the driver. It is the Occidental Taksim and the address is Kocatepe, Topçu Cd. No:19, 34437 Beyoğlu (also on the contact sheet).
The drive takes approximately one hour, depending on traffic.

Rooms the Occidental Taksim will be available for check-in from 2:00 p.m. on September 10.
The first group activity will be a welcome dinner and an orientation briefing on September 10 at 8:00 p.m. in the Ballroom, located on the second floor of our hotel.
If you are arriving after dinner, have breakfast and meet the group in the lobby to depart at 8:30 a.m. on September 11.

Those on the group flight will depart the hotel at 9:00 a.m. on September 19. It is recommended to check in 3 hours ahead of an international flight. Turkish Airlines #79 departs Istanbul at 1:15 p.m.
Those departing on September 19 who are not on the group flight will be provided with a transfer to the airport. Trip staff will let you know what time to meet your transport a day or two before departure.
Check out time from our hotel is 12:00 noon.
The last group activity will be a farewell dinner on the evening of September 18.

Important Information about All Flights

If a scholar does not use one part of their flight itinerary, this will result in the remainder of their itinerary being canceled and the loss of all ticket value. The scholar will need to pay for a new ticket to finish their travels. The airlines are very strict about this.
- For example, if a scholar has an itinerary that takes them from Stockholm to London and departs a week later for San Francisco, the scholar's flight from London to San Francisco will be canceled if that scholar does not also take the scheduled flight from Stockholm to London.

Flight date and routing changes made without the involvement of StudentUniverse (e.g. directly on the airline's website) may result in StudentUniverse not being able to assist with future changes. This does not apply to seat changes, special meal requests, or adding mileage awards program or known traveler numbers.

If there are any issues with your flights, call 1-844-985-4117. It is a 24-hour emergency line that offers more immediate service than the help number listed on your e-tickets.
