We will be visiting Finland during the transition from winter to spring, when temperatures are still very cold, historically ranging at this time of year from the mid-20s (°F) to the mid-30s during the day, dropping to the single digits to the mid-10s in the early mornings and evenings, and even occasionally to as low as -20 °F or so. Intermittent rain or snow is likely during the program.
Below are the average temperatures and precipitation for the month of March in some of the locations on our itinerary, but on any given day, temperatures may vary considerably.
High (°F) Low (°F) Average Precipitation (inches)
Helsinki 34˚ 23˚ 1.4
Rovaniemi 27˚ 15˚ 1.4
Luosto 26˚ 8˚ 1.1
As temperatures are likely to be below freezing for most of the program and many activities take place outdoors, sufficiently warm clothing will be required to keep you comfortable. See the “What to Bring” section for more information.
Since weather patterns are increasingly unpredictable, we recommend checking temperatures online at The Weather Channel or Weather Underground a few days before the trip departs. This will be your best source for up-to-date weather information.
