Assignments are a great way to share Google Docs with students, along with assignment instructions and resources.
To add an assignment, start by clicking on the Add button in the bottom right corner and selecting Create assignment.

After scheduling the assignment, it will appear for the teacher in the stream. From the stream, the teacher can edit the question, or adjust when it will appear in the stream for the students.
When an assignment displays in the stream for students, they see the due date, along with any view only attachments. Students can use the comment section to ask clarifying questions or share information with their classmates. To see files with editing permission, students will need to Open the assignment.
After opening the assignment, students have the option to Add weblinks, electronic attachments, and existing Google Drive files. In addition, students can Create new Google Drive files as part of the assignment. This assignment screen also shows the student the status of the assignment, Done or Not Done. When a student is ready to submit their assignment, they just need to click Turn In. If you would like to create an offline assignment, students will see a "Mark as Done" button rather than Turn In.
As students start to work on assignments, you will see their assignment status in the Stream.
You can provide feedback to students, by clicking on the assignment status. On this screen, you can adjust the total possible points. You can view and comment on each assignment by clicking on the submitted files. Next, you have the option to provide a grade for the student's work. You also have the option, of not grading the work and returning it to the student with suggestions for revision.
After selecting the student and clicking Return. You have a field to add comments for the student to read as they continue working on the assignment.
