Dear Rippowam families,
As we head into the long weekend, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day. While many of us look forward to the extra time with family and friends, it’s also important to pause and remember the true meaning of the day—to honor and reflect on the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
A huge thank you to our incredible 8th grade team for organizing and leading the Boston trip this past week! Taking nearly 90 students on such an exciting adventure is no small feat, and we are so grateful for the time, planning, and energy that went into making it a memorable experience for all.
Yesterday we had a new principal! Our principal for the day, 7th grader Sydney Betz, won the opportunity through our silent auction. I enjoyed spending the day with her and appreciated her help and support in the classrooms, hallways and lunchrooms! Please see her note below about her experience:
When I was principal for the day I did a lot of things that principals do. I did hall monitor duty, a class observation, lunch duty, and watched an event for the new arrivals classes. Mrs. Colmenares also had a few meetings. I learned that a lot of things have to get done when you are a principal even though you don’t teach classes. The principal needs to make sure all conflicts get resolved, substitutes arrive to classes, students arrive to classes, everyone is doing what they are supposed to during lunch, and that even teachers are doing what they are supposed to. I do think being a principal is fun though. You get to talk to a lot of different people, and also have authority.
Thank you principal Betz!

We are also planning on live-streaming the ceremony as well.
End of year Field Trips and Expectations:
End of year field trips are being planned now by grade level. More information will come very soon:
6th grade: Italian Center
7th grade: Westport/Weston YMCA
8th grade: Holiday Hill
Field trips are an extension of classroom learning into the greater world; therefore, exemplary behavior is expected. At the discretion of the administration, students who have exhibited problematic behavior may be excluded from attending field trips. Reasons for exclusion may include, but are not limited to: suspensions, poor academic standing in any subject, and poor attendance. Those students who are in jeopardy of not attending field trips will be advised of their status in hopes that their behavior/academic standing will improve. Students who are excluded from the privilege of taking field trips will be notified in advance as will their parent(s)/guardian(s). Children who are not eligible for trips are expected to be at school for academic curricular programs.
Best,
Kristina Colmenares
