Dear Rippowam families,
Congratulations to the 6th grade Red Team for winning the Penny Wars fundraiser! As a school, we raised a total of $1033.02 for end of year trips. The Red Team will be invited to the auditorium this Friday to have the opportunity to be selected to put a pie in the face of staff members like myself, Mr. Biko, Mr. Langworth and some of their teachers. All other students will be able to watch live-streamed into classrooms.
Early release day on Wednesday, Jan 29th
Students are released from school at 11:45am and staff have professional development in the afternoon.
i-Ready Mid-Year Assessment starts this week
Students will be taking their i-Ready mid-year assessments for ELA between January 30th-31st and Math assessments February 5th-6th. They are taking these assessments in class over the course of 2 days and we will run a special testing schedule.
Make sure your child comes with a charged Chromebook and their charger
Each student will be assigned a testing room. Their homeroom teacher can remind students on Monday of their room.
On testing days, students will report to their testing room at 7:35 after homeroom and announcements. Please be on time.
Any electronic device (cell phone, smart watch, etc) must be turned off and placed in their book bags that will be left along the front wall of the classroom. Students cannot have access to these devices during testing.
During the testing period, students will have school-issued headphones and have about 90 minutes each session.
Bring a book! If students finish testing, they can read a book or rest - they cannot be on their laptop or talk while other students are testing.

Cell Phone Policy Update
One important thing to note: Students have been MUCH better about the district cell phone policy. Our hallways, classrooms and cafeterias have been mostly screen free. At lunch, students sit and talk to each other or play games. In classrooms, students have their ChromeBooks for any tech needs. At Rippowam, we want students to focus on academics and build strong, positive relationships during school hours without the distraction or unsafe situations that electronic devices may bring.
For our 8th grade, we currently have parents come and pick up electronic devices if confiscated. Starting on Monday, January 27th, we will be following this protocol for all grades. If we collect your child’s phone, earbuds, earphones, smartwatches, iPads and/or gaming devices, we will be calling to ask a parent or guardian to come pick it up.
Please help us to continue and keep the school screen free. If parents need to communicate with their child, you can call the main office. A
