Dear Rippowam families,
Happy winter break! May this upcoming week bring you time to connect with family, relax and do some things that bring you joy.
While the holiday season brings lots of excitement and energy, it is also a time to express gratitude for the gifts we have in our life. You have chosen to send one of your greatest gifts - your child(ren) - to us at Rippowam. Thank you for the trust you place in us daily and for being a part of the greater Rippowam family.
Whatever holidays or traditions you celebrate, the Rippowam staff wishes you a safe and joyous break and a happy and healthy New Year. May 2024 bring us all lots of love, success, and laughter!
Holiday Hoops/Activity Day Success!
Yesterday we had an activity day focused on the theme of inclusion. We heard from a motivational speaker, Jay Corbin, who reminded students that communication and understanding is key in navigating our differences and being inclusive to all. Then we had an art activity in advisory that celebrated elements of our individual identities that we are proud of. Finally, we cheered on our boys and girls basketball players as they played in mixed teams as part of our annual Holiday Hoops game. During the quarters, students competed in foul shots and 3-point shots. We had two new elements to the game this year: a half-time performance by our Rippowam Cheer Team and the addition of our Unified Sports Team playing one of the quarters. It was beautiful to see our entire student body cheering on students in our self-contained classes playing with students without disabilities.
7th Opening Act Show
The 7th grade team organized a mini-talent show where students danced, sang and performed for each other. Audience members voted for the top 3 performances. Congratulations to 1st place winners Liam Almanzar and Robert Macari. Our 2nd place winners were the dance team of Trinity Robinson, Daylia McClean, McKenzie Penn, Aubrianna Bunsie, and Soyeema Delisca. Our 3rd place winner was singer Shafone Hajbi. In between performances, the audience participated in sing-alongs to songs like the theme song from “Sophia the 1st” and “All I Want for Christmas is You.” It was a beautiful event and a great way to end the final full school day of 2023.
New Arrivals Parent Night
Our New Arrivals classroom teacher, Sara Herlands, partnered with the Jewish Family Services of Greenwich and offered a parent night that celebrated the diversity of her classroom with Ukrainian and Colombian food and translators to support in Spanish, Ukrainian and Haitian-Creole so parents could meet and mingle.
School resumes on Tuesday, January 2nd
It is a regular day of school. It will be an A day. We look forward to seeing your children in 2023! We will also figure out how to do the Holiday Hoops game early in the new year - I know students and staff alike were looking forward to it.
2nd Quarter ends on Friday, January 19th
Parents please check PowerSchool and your child’s google classrooms. The break is a nice time for students to get caught up on any missed work and prepare for the end of the quarter.
Best,
