Dear Rippowam families,
Last night was our first dance of the year with over 250 students in attendance. It was an incredible event thanks to the help of over 30 parents and Rippowam teachers! There were creative costumes, a limbo contest hosted by Mr. de Andrade and lots of dancing to DJ Sid Nice (aka Mr. Watson). Thank you to everyone who helped by volunteering time or donated water and snacks.
It was beautiful to end the week with such a fun positive event, especially after how Friday morning began with someone falsely reporting an active shooter at Stamford High School. While the incident was quickly determined to be a hoax, the stress and fear it creates are real for us all. Our leaders at the central office quickly called a meeting of all building administrators and safety support to debrief the process. Student safety continues to be at the forefront of our school’s decision-making process.
Wednesday. October 26th Schedule:
Rippowam students will be released at 11:45am on Wednesday, October 26th for teacher professional development.
Fun Friday
Our 2nd school-wide Fun Friday will be Friday, October 28th. We have a special schedule where all classes will meet for 40 minutes to allow an hour of community building at the end of the day. Participation in this Fun Friday is determined by not being late to class, not having more than 2 cell phone confiscations and not having any major behavioral referrals or issues.
Congratulations again to Intramural Cross Country!
The cross country team faced a challenging 1.8 mile course yesterday at Scofield Middle School. Over 200 runners completed the long, hilly course. Justin Gentle placed 1st, Leo Russell placed 13th and Victor Torres placed 19th. Top finishers for the girls were Zanila McKenzie, Sarah Diaz and Alison Martinez-Aquino. Most importantly, great job to all our runners who gave 100% effort out on the course. We are so proud of you. The next and final meet of the season will be the Championships which will be held at Rippowam in 2 weeks on November 1st.
Congratulations 7th grader Brooke Healy for being named CT’s first youth ambassador for Toys for Tots!
Brooke Healy, a Rippowam 7th Grader, was recently selected by Toys for Tots to be the first CT youth ambassador because of the work she has done previously for the organization. News Channel 12 conducted an interview with her yesterday. Click here to see Channel 12 news segment.
