April Newsletter for 5-7 ELA and Literature:
Hello, everyone!
I cannot believe that we are almost halfway through April already! Time really flies by fast when you are having fun.
I just wanted to update you all on the upcoming couple of weeks in April.
5th Grade:
This update is for ELA: We have our Spelling and Prepositions test coming up this Friday. This will most likely be the last Grammar Test of the year (woohoo!). We will still continue to have the spelling and vocabulary tests every week for the foreseeable future. After the test, we will write our final writing assignment of the school year which is going to be an expository essay on the Wild West with some research involved. I will update you with the exact details of this later.
In Literature, we are reading about the Wild West. We will also be writing about this subject in ELA.
6th Grade:
For ELA, we will have our final Grammar Test of the year next Thursday, April 30th. Then, we will have our narrative writing assignment. I will update with the prompt when I assign it.
For Literature, we will continue to read the Giver by Lois Lowry. We should finish it in May when we will also have our open-book test. Students will be assigned a project related to the Giver by Friday. I will update with the details of that project when I assign it. This project will be one the students will need to complete outside of class. I will try to factor in a day or two in class that we could potentially work on, but I cannot promise that definitively. We will be presenting these in class and they will be due the second week of May.
7th Grade:
For ELA, we will have our final Grammar test on Monday, April 27th. Afterwards, students will be assigned their final writing assignment which will be a research expository essay.
For Literature, students will continue to read Bud, Not Buddy. We should finish by the second week of May. There will be an open-book test when we are done. They will also have a project due around that time that they will complete at home. I will make sure to carve out some time in class in order to help them work on it, but I cannot guarantee a lot of time.
I hope everyone has a lovely April.
