We just finished our first unit in ELA on nouns. The students did a great job on their tests. We will be starting Unit 2 this week. For 5th and 6th grade, we will focus on pronouns. For 7th grade, we will focus on adjectives.
In Literature, we will begin reading our novels. In 5th grade, we will read Wonder. In 6th grade, we will read Where the Red Fern Grows. In 7th grade, we will read The Book Thief. As we read, we will annotate and prepare for our projects. Projects will be due after we are done reading the book. After we finish reading, we will also write essays in ELA class and take an open-book test. As we read, we will answer questions and turn them in for Classwork credit.
Projects will be exclusive for each book. 5th Grade will create a book-themed cereal box that displays the plot, characters, setting, and conflict of the story. 6th Grade will create a 3-D diorama of a relevant scene from the story. 7th Grade will create a scrapbook from various topics and themes from the story.
5th Grade test for Wonder will be on October 17th. Projects will be due October 20th. Essays will be due on the 24th of October.
6th Grade will follow the same schedule.
7th Grade will have their test on October 29th. Their projects will be due on November 5th and their essays on November 7th.
If there are any changes to the schedule, I will let you know.
Projects will be completed outside of school except for the written parts. We will write our essays in class. Tests will also be open book. We will also have time to work on this in Study Hall.
Feel free to reach out with any questions. We still have over a month before anything is due and we have not yet discussed the prompts or expectations.
I will assign the project when we first start reading so that way students can work on it while we are reading.
I hope you all have a great day and I cannot wait to read these books with everyone.
