WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adobe Illustrator Layers!
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor and design program developed and marketed by Adobe Inc.
What you will learn: Create and edit layers
The Layers panel is usually located on the right side of the work area. If it’s not visible, choose Window > Layers to open it.
Each new document starts with a single layer named Layer 1.
To rename a layer, double-click the layer name in the Layers panel, change the name, and press Enter (Windows) or Return (macOS).
To create a new layer, click the Create New Layer button at the bottom of the Layers panel.
To select a layer, click the layer in the Layers panel.
Drag a layer up or down in the Layers panel to change the order of layered objects in the document.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: You move and adjust layers in a new document!
Shortcut: Shift + Ctrl + S
(or File: SAVE AS)
Save to YOUR COMPUTER! Click the Save on Your Computer button
On the left click THIS PC
Select This PC
Select Folder With your name
Name the document:
"First Name Last Name BURGER"
Click SAVE
Illustrator OPTIONS...
Version: Illustrator 2020
click OK
Click VIEW
Click SMART GUIDES (Check mark should be next to smart guides)
Smart guides will help to easily align the letters with each other as we modify them. (They will show up as Magenta lines)
Learning to use Layers makes managing your content faster and easier!
Create a new layer, add artwork to that layer, and change some properties for the layer...
Working with layers in the layers panel is useful in a lot of ways including for example when you have different elements in an icon or a logo that you need to work on individually without affecting the other elements.
For this poster, you'll create a background shape and then create a layer to more easily select the content later.
To access the layers in the document you'll open the layers panel… so choose WINDOW then LAYERS
You will see each layer is LOCKED and named
But they are not in the correct order!
We now need to move the layers so they are in the correct order!
In the Layers dialog box, click and pull each layer (down and up) until they are in the following order!
Top Bun
Mayo
Lettuce
Onions
Pickles
Top Patty
Tomatoes
Center Bun
Bottom patty
Cheese
Bottom Bun
Background
Now you need to unlock each layer and move the ingredient into place to make a complete hamburger!
To unlock a layer, in the layers panel, click the padlock to unlock it (it should disappear!)
Click circle (shown circled in the picture to the left) on each item to make sure grouped, then using the SELECT TOOL simply click and drag the ingredient into place.
Remember to lock the layer when you are done moving the ingredient!
If you do not turn in an AI file - you will not get credit for the assignment.
You will turn in the following to Google Classroom Assignment:
An AI file of your completed burger.
A jpg of your completed burger. (export options)
