I am Ziebel M. López Font who come from Puerto Rico, a beautiful and sunny island in the Caribbean. Our roots are from Spanish, African and Taino Indians. I am very proud of my ancestors because in difficult and adverse times we are united and help those in need.
My island has beautiful warm and clear beaches, mountains, rainfalls, Bioluminescent Bays, wonderful hotels, casinos, the Cavern of Camuy River, light houses, Spanish fortress, and the rain forest “ El Yunque”. There are plenty of places you can enjoy such as: Ceremonial Tainos Park and Tibes Ceremonial Park, festivals, carnivals, Art Museum, and others.
In Puerto Rico we celebrate the Epiphany or the Three Kings Day on January 6, as commemorating when Three Kings from Orient visit and give gold, myrrh and incense to Baby Jesus who was born in a manger. During the night of the fifth of January children’s place grass and water under the beds for the camels of the Three Kings with a written note of what kind of presents they want to get from them. In the morning of January 6, children awake very early in the morning wondering for their presents and looking under the beds were the Three Kings led different kinds of presents and toys. Families go to Church, "parrandas”, music, good food, visit family and relatives during the day.
During Christmas time one of our favorite recipe is roasted pork.
Recipe for Roasted Pork
Ingredients: oven, pork, Iberia or Badia total seasoning, annatto, ground cumin, salt, shopped garlic and oregano.
Before the pork is ready to roast you must prepare and mix enough quantity of Iberia or Badia total seasoning, annatto, ground cumin, salt, shopped garlic and oregano. Use the mix all over and inside the pork, making some holes in the meat. Let it rest then bake it slowly until the meat is cooked and the skin is roast. Bon appetite!
