In 1968, Congress approved the president's proclamation for National Hispanic Heritage Week. Twenty years later, it was designated as a month-long observance. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year September 15th to October 15th. September 15th marks the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence within the same period.
Hispanic Heritage Month is a time where we recognize and celebrate the contributions of Latinos and Hispanic Americans to the American society and culture.
To learn more about the contributions of Hispanic Americans or other ways that our culture has been influenced, spend some time on Google researching the questions below! (I know I have learned so much even while designing this site!)
Guadelupe Day, La Navidad, Las Posadas, Three Kings Day, and the Day of the Dead are some of the holidays that are celebrated by Hispanics. Do your own research to learn more about each holiday and why they are important to the culture.
