Hello, my name is Viktor C. Rodríguez, and my family is from the Orocovis, Puerto Rico. I am very proud to be a Puerto Rican-American. I am presently the fifth grade mathematics teacher here at Sunnyside Elementary School. This is my seventh year here at Sunnyside and my 24th year of teaching in the public school education setting. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work in various school districts in Indianapolis. I am married and have five amazing boys. We are proud residents here in Lawrence Township!
Our family has many traditions that we enjoy celebrating with each other year after year. Two of the most special traditions we celebrate are El dia de los muertos (Day of the Dead) on November 1st and El día de los Reyes Mago (Three Kings Day) on January 6th. Both of these days are very special to our family, because we are Catholic. On November 2 is a time for us to reflect and remember the many sacrifices made by our departed ancestors who paved the way for us to migrate to the United States to pursue a better life. Then on January 6th we celebrate and remember the gifts presented to our Savior. During both days we pray as a family and prepare tradition Puerto Rican meals to celebrate. I enjoy being able to speak, read and write in both English and Spanish. As a teacher I am able to teach in both languages to better serve our diverse population of students at Sunnyside. This brings me such joy! I look forward to the wonderful opportunities of working with our students here.
Some of the many things I enjoy in life are very simple and beautiful. I enjoy appreciating the great outdoors with my family. We love going walking, hiking and on bike rides at Fort Harrison. Swimming and canoeing are also one of our top activities to do as well. Listening, playing and composing music are always a relaxing and refreshing things to do as well.
I look forward to work, growing and getting to know our Sunnyside students, families and community. Thanks for providing this opportunity to do so!
