Secondary G/T Initial Series Part 1 - The Nature & Needs of Gifted Learners

Description: This course is designed for participants seeking their Secondary G/T initial series (30 hours) training. Teachers new to Honors and AP are required to complete the 30-hour initial training by the end of the first semester. Participants will consider state expectations for gifted education, explore the unique needs of gifted learners, and reflect on current instructional and program practices.

Credits: 6 hours G/T Initial Training Credit

Description: Being curious is an essential part of human consciousness, a joyful feature of a life well lived. But as recent research evidence shows, fostering curiosity holds a power that goes beyond merely feeling good. In fact, curiosity may be critical to student success in school. In this course, you will explore the mechanisms, conditions, and strategies through which curiosity compels learning.

Secondary G/T Update - AP: A Fit for Gifted Learners?

Description: This course will demonstrate the power of building strong relationships and guiding gifted learners by allowing G/T students to participate in advanced courses that reflect their individual needs. Although some gifted students are multi-potential gifted learners who show strengths in all areas, others have more specific gifts. Either way, for these learners to meet their full potential, achieving a healthy balance is critical. In this article study, we will explore the complexities of serving gifted learners through the Advanced Placement Program.

Secondary G/T Update - Book Study: Exploring Self-Regulation & the Underachieving Gifted Learner

Description: This course will demonstrate the power of building relationships with students and the role that self-regulation plays in achievement for gifted learners. Although many gifted students are high achievers, many fail to reach their full potential and are classified as underachievers. These students need to learn specific skills through intentional instructional practices and structures in our secondary courses.
