Beginning band is structured to teach each student the fundamental music skills required to be successful on their instrument.  Private lessons are strongly encouraged.

• Beginning band is primarily for 6th grade students.

• NO prior experience is necessary to join beginning band. We teach you how to read music and play your instrument.

• Private lessons are strongly encouraged.

• Objective of Beginning Band:

  • Learn and demonstrate band content standards as outlined by the Texas State Board of Education

  • Learn and demonstrate the process of creating and improving music through concerts

  • Learn and demonstrate ability to read music

  • Learn and demonstrate ability to perform on instrument

• Performances in Beginning Band

  • Winter Concert

  • Spring Concert 

• Class Periods:

  • 1st Period: Trombone/Euphonium/Tuba

  • 2nd Period: Clarinet/Percussion

  • 6th Period: Trumpet/Horn

  • 7th Period: Oboe/Bassoon

  • 8th Period: Flute/Saxophone

Symphonic Band is an intermediate level class.  

• Primarily 7th/8th grade students, contingent on successful audition

• Private lessons are strongly encouraged.

• Objective of Symphonic Band:

  • Learn and demonstrate band content standards as outlined by the Texas State Board of Education

  • Continue to learn and demonstrate the process of creating and improving music through concerts

  • Preparation for high school band or Honor Band

  • Performance of Grade 1 & 2 band literature

• Performances in Symphonic Band

  • Fall Concert

  • Winter Concert

  • Spring Concert 

  • Pre-UIL

  • UIL Concert and Sightreading

  • Solo Contest

• 4th Period

Honor Band is an advanced level class. 

• Primarily 7th/8th grade students, contingent on successful audition

• Private Lessons are expected.

• Objective of Honor Band:

  • Learn and demonstrate band content standards as outlined by the Texas State Board of Education

  • Continue to learn and demonstrate the process of creating and improving music through concerts

  • Preparation for high school band and more complex literature

  • Performance of Grade 2, 3, & 4 literature

• Performances in Honor Band

  • Fall Concert

  • Winter Concert

  • Spring Concert 

  • All-Region Band/District Band Audition

  • Pre-UIL 

  • UIL Concert and Sightreading
