• RESCHEDULED - Tuesday, May 20 - 5th Grade Family Picnic from 6-8pm (Homestead Playground)

• Thursday, May 22 - 5th Grade Pool Party at the Homestead Pool (permission slips coming home Tuesday 5/6)

• Friday, May 23 - 5th Grade End of the Year Ceremony & Walk 

  • Traditionally students leave with their parents after the walk, so feel free to plan on taking your child after the ceremony is finished.  It is an early release day from school, and often parents plan a fun get  together with friends to celebrate completing elementary school.

UPDATED BEHAVIOR POLICY

• If a student displays disruptive behavior, we document the behavior by marking a strike on our behavior log.  

  • Students with a strike on any given day will be assigned restricted recess (recess restricted to one section of the playground for the day).

  • If a student receives three strikes in any given week, he/she will be assigned after-school detention.  

    • After-school detention will be served during the next available after-school detention session.

      • Sessions are held Monday and Thursday from 3:00-3:30 pm.

    • During this session students will be required to complete behavior think sheets to reflect on the disruptions caused to learning due to inappropriate behaviors.

    • If a child cannot attend an after-school detention session due to transportation (students who attend daycare or who ride the bus home), the parents must contact the teacher and request that their child serve lunch detention as an alternate consequence instead.

• If you update any of your parent information in Skyward, contact Mrs. Flores and Mrs. Thacker.  We created our parent contact document from Skyward at the beginning of the school year, and don't check back with Skyward to see if there have been changes each week before sending out the newsletter.  If you make a change, please let us know so we can update your information in our records as well.

Recognize SomeONE

• Our superintendent, Dr. Rapp, is focused on creating a culture that makes LISD stand out as a district where we all thrive.  One of our district goals is to retain our incredible staff members that make #ONELisd the amazing district that it is.  In an effort to include parents and community members in this effort, the district has an online access point for parents to send in positive notes of encouragement to recognize staff members on all campuses to let them know that they are valued and appreciated.  If you would like to recognize an LISD staff member, you can use the link below to fill out a quick form that will be shared with the employee to let them know they are making a difference in the lives of our students and their families.

CHANGE OF DISMISSAL --

• If something comes up during the day and your child needs a change of dismissal, please contact ALL of the following people:  Michelle Whitlock (whitlockm@lisd.net), Julie Sartain (sartainjf@lisd.net), Caroline Blackwell (blackwellc@lisd.net), Mrs. Thacker (thackerr@lisd.net) AND Mrs. Flores (floresh@lisd.net).  We understand that this seems like overkill but on any given day a teacher or office staff member could be off campus. The only way to ensure that we know how your child is going home is to include each one of us on the communication.  Any change of dismissal received after 2:30pm may not be communicated with your child. Please send in any notes prior to 2:30pm.

REPORTING ABSENCES

• The district has created an Absence Note Portal to be used by parents to report an absence.  Please use this link to access this portal to let us know when your child is absent.
