Digital Citizenship is part of the required curriculum and can be taught by either the classroom teacher or the campus LMS.
Grades K–3: Lessons are built into the Science curriculum (Unit 1 or 2) and are located in Stage 3.
Grades 4–5: Lessons are separate and should be taught before the Digital Citizenship deadlines.
Teachers can choose between:
Google Slides lessons (with notes to guide instruction), or
LMS-led video lessons (teachers should actively engage with students during videos and lead the discussions and activities).
**Even if the LMS teaches the lessons, classroom teachers are still responsible for making sure students get the required instruction.**
Important Notes for 4th Grade:
The first two lessons must be taught before iPads go home with students.
After instruction, students will take a required assessment in Aware. This can be done online or with printed answer sheets.
Digital Citizenship should be more than just a lesson—it should be part of your everyday classroom culture and regular conversations with students.
