Connected Campuses focus on both climate and culture as they work to improve all the interconnected areas of relationship and learning
A positive school climate can mean a variety of things including:
Norms and values which support social, emotional, and physical safety
Teachers, students, and families develop a shared school vision
Teachers nurture attitudes that accentuate the benefits gained from learning
Each person contributes to the care and orderly operation of the school
Educators and students are engaged and respected
Students spend a significant amount of time in school. Therefore, students’ feelings about their school experience can have a big impact on their daily lives. Students not only need to feel safe at school, but should also feel comfortable, and that they are part of a supportive environment.
The terms “culture” and “climate” are used interchangeably. But these terms are more than just words. They are values that affect students, staff, and stakeholders. While they are often thought of as the same, a school’s culture directly impacts the climate within the school.

School climate is a set of shared perceptions and norms that help students and teachers love the school and want to be part of it. It refers to the school’s effect on students, including diversity, teaching practices, and the relationship among administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
School culture refers to how the school and teachers work together and the set of values, beliefs, and assumptions they share. Positive school culture and climate improve students’ ability to learn.

Persistent positive school climate has been linked to positive student development, learning, academic achievement, effective risk prevention and health promotion, high graduation rates, low dropout rates, and teacher retention (Thapa, Cohen, Guffey, & Higgins, D’Alessandro, 2013).

Student Learning is Impacted by Many Areas:
Campus Culture is an indicator of the health and relationship between staff and student connection, student and staff experience and student learning and educator planning.
