Students are required to maintain certain academic and behavioral requirements to participate in athletics and extracurricular activities.
Students will become academically ineligible if they are failing any courses. The first check for eligibility will be at the four-week mark of each semester. Eligibility will be rechecked each week thereafter on Tuesdays at 9:00 am, and at that point, students can either regain eligibility or remain ineligible. If a student completes additional coursework or raises their grade during their week of ineligibility, the student still remains ineligible until the following Tuesday when the ineligibility report is run again. When the reporting period contains three or fewer full school days, students will have the opportunity to become eligible, but no new students will become ineligible. During this time, students who were ineligible the previous week will remain ineligible if they are failing any courses. The reporting period is from Tuesday to Tuesday. A student will not become ineligible for activities that are part of regular coursework and are assigned as grades, such as band and choir concerts that are required course components.
Per WIAA rules, students who receive two or more failing grades at the end of semester 1 will be ineligible for the next 15 consecutive days that school is in session. Ineligibility will begin the first school day after grades are due in the Middle/High School Office.
Per WIAA rules, students who receive two or more failing grades at the end of semester 2 will be declared ineligible for a period of time at the beginning of the next school year. If the earliest allowed WIAA game/meet takes place before the first day of classes, students will be ineligible for the lesser of
21 consecutive calendar days beginning with the date of the earliest allowed competition in a sport
One-third of the maximum number of games/meets allowed in a sport (rounded up if one-third results in a fraction)
If the first game/meet occurs on or after the first day of school, the student will be ineligible for the first 15 consecutive days that school is in session.
A student must attend school for four full class periods, excluding lunch, in order to participate in a game, practice, or extracurricular event that day. To participate in activities over breaks, students must attend school for four full class periods the day before the break. The athletic department and/or the activity sponsor will check eligibility based on attendance.
Students who are suspended from school will not be allowed to participate in all school-related events including games, practices, performances, extracurriculars and other school-sponsored activities on the day(s) of the suspension. This policy applies to both in-school and out-of-school suspensions. Students with outstanding or unserved disciplinary consequences such as suspensions or detentions will not be allowed to attend extracurricular events including, but not limited to, athletic events or dances.
Once ineligible, a student may practice with their team but may not compete, dress, or travel until they regain eligibility. Students may also be subject to disciplinary action at the discretion of their coach and/or sponsor. Sports fees will not be waived or prorated if a student becomes ineligible during a sports season.
