1.Warm up- reflection on "Do words have power?" Give an example of how they do or do not have power. Who/what gives words power?
2. Read "Incident" by Countee Cullen and "The Meaning of a Word" by Gloria Naylor
3. We discuss these 2 texts at length and really dive in to a deep conversation about the power of hateful language in American history and present.
4. Students completed a final reflection as an exit ticket. Using the same prompt, students reflected on how their views changed in regard to language, the power of words, and hateful speech in its many forms.
Homework: Study grammar---4-29-19 is the grammar final!!!!
